How to Choose the Right Blouse for a Kanjeevaram Silk Saree
A Kanjeevaram (Kanchipuram) silk saree is rich on its own, so the blouse should complete it — not compete with it. Here is how we guide customers at our Erode studio.
Start with the blouse piece
Most Kanjeevarams come with a running blouse piece in the border or body colour. It is usually the safest choice, because the silk and zari match perfectly.
Three colour approaches
- Matching: same as the saree body — elegant, timeless, great for heavy Aari.
- Border colour: picks up the border — the most popular "contrast" look.
- Deep tone: a richer shade of the body colour — beautiful for evening functions.
Not sure? Upload a photo of your saree to the Sanmi Studio colour matcher — it suggests blouse and zari colours from your actual saree.
Necklines that suit silk
Round, U and sweetheart necks suit heavy silk and traditional jewellery. Boat necks look graceful with lighter Kanjeevarams and minimal jewellery.
Sleeves
Elbow-length sleeves are the classic Kanjeevaram pairing. Short sleeves look modern; full sleeves look royal for weddings.
How much Aari?
Because Kanjeevaram borders are already ornate, a medium Aari neckline and sleeve border is often enough. For bridal wear, add work on the yoke and back.
Zari tone
Match the Aari zari to your saree zari — antique gold with antique gold, bright with bright. Mixing tones can look patchy in photographs.
