Choosing a Birthday Gown for Your Daughter
A birthday gown is the star of the cake-cutting photos — but it also has to survive games, dancing and a long evening. Here is how to choose one that works on both counts.
Tulle and net: the classic party look
Layered tulle gives the twirly, princess silhouette most girls dream of. Tiered pink, lavender and purple gowns photograph beautifully. We always add a soft cotton lining so the net never scratches.
Satin and silk: rich and elegant
Satin has a soft shine and suits evening parties; pattu silk feels traditional and festive. Both drape well and are comfortable for longer events. A satin gown can even be matched with mom for a mom-and-me look.
Pick colours with the theme
Tell us your cake and decoration colours and we suggest a gown that stands out against them — a red tulle frock on a pastel set-up, or a black net gown against gold balloons.
Sleeves and neckline
- Flutter or puff sleeves for babies and toddlers.
- Sleeveless with a pearl neckline for warm evenings.
- Puff sleeves with feather or sequin detail for a statement look.
Comfort checklist
- Hem just above the ankle so she can run without tripping.
- Back zip or hooks for quick changes.
- Light enough to wear for three hours.
