The Craft

Aari Work &
Hand Embroidery.

Every thread placed with intention. Every stitch holding a pattern. Aari embroidery — the art of creating beauty, one hook at a time.

Aari work is one of India's oldest and most intricate embroidery traditions. Using a fine hooked needle, our artisans create breathtaking patterns on blouses, sarees and garments — with thread, beads, stones, zari and sequins. Every design is done by hand, and no two pieces are identical.

What Makes Aari Work Special?

Unlike machine embroidery or printed designs, Aari work is done entirely by hand using a hook-like needle. This allows our artisans to create incredibly fine, detailed and three-dimensional patterns that cannot be replicated by any machine. Each Aari design takes hours — sometimes days — of concentrated, skilled work.

Aari Work in Erode — What to Expect

Every Aari order at Sanmi Creation starts with your fabric and an idea — a saree you want to match, a photo you saved, or just an occasion. We suggest a motif, the thread and zari tones, and how dense the work should be, then trace the design onto the fabric and stretch it on the Aari frame.

Simple Aari necklines usually take about 1–2 weeks. Bridal Aari with zardosi, kundan stones and bead fringe needs around 4–6 weeks, because every stitch is placed by hand. Because we also stitch the blouse, the embroidery is positioned exactly to your measurements — necklines line up, sleeve borders sit right, and the back neck frames the work.

How much time does Aari work take?

Simple Aari blouses take about 1–2 weeks; bridal Aari with heavy zardosi and stone work needs about 4–6 weeks.

Can you do Aari work on a blouse I already have?

Often yes, depending on the fabric and how it is stitched. Bring it to our studio near EPB Nagar and we will check.

Is Aari work the same as maggam work?

Yes — both are hand embroidery done with a hooked needle on a frame; the name changes by region.

Can I choose my own thread and stone colours?

Yes. Thread, zari, beads and stones are all matched to your saree or chosen palette.
