Choosing a Naming Ceremony Outfit for Your Baby
A naming ceremony (cradle ceremony) is one of the first big days in your baby's life. The outfit should look beautiful in photos and feel gentle on new skin.
Fabric: soft first
Choose soft cotton, or silk lined with cotton. Silk alone can feel rough on a newborn; lining makes all the difference.
Trims: light and secure
Keep zari and Aari light and well away from the neck and underarms. Avoid loose beads or stones that a baby could pull off.
Easy openings
Front buttons, back snaps or a wide neck make dressing quick — important when the baby is tired or the ceremony runs long.
Size with room to grow
Babies grow fast. Ask for a little extra margin so the outfit can be worn again for the first temple visit or a family function.
Match with mom
A tiny pattu pavadai with a matching silk blouse for mom makes lovely photos. See mother & daughter combos and infant & baby dresses.
